Playing in arenas is great fun and a good rush, but the rewards are completely different than regular PvP combat. The most notable difference is that arena points are given based on your player rating each week, instead of for each kill or each match you win. If you are not getting a good rating each week, and you are expecting to fast track your way to some great gladiator gear, you are in for a long wait! 5v5 > 3v3 > 2v2 If you want to get some uber gladiator gear quickly, you HAVE to get onto a 5v5 team, or at least a 3v3 team. The reason? While you can be on a team of each type, Blizzard only allows you to collect points for ONE team each week. Blizzard also heavily weighs the rewards in favor of the larger 5v5 team because they feel this will be a more balanced team. 2v2 teams can be heavily overpowered depending on the class combination, so a much higher rating is required to get the same amount of arena points as a lower ranked 5v5 team. The arena point rewards for each team type can be illustrated with a simple table. The rewards plateau at about 1500 and 3500, with steady gains in arena points between these two points. If you can't get past 1500, you are better off doing just 10 matches (the maximum required each week to get ranked) and call it a night. Likewise, if you are already 3500 rating, there is not much need to play more than 10 matches per week. Arena Point Rewards Comparison for 5v5, 3v3 and 2v2 teams
A "par" rating is about 1500. If you win about the same amount of matches as you lose, you should stay around 1500. If your team is very successful and you win a ton of matches, your rating will go up, and you will get far more points. However, as the above table indicates, a 1500 rated 5v5 team gets the same amount of points as a 1600 3v3 team, and a 1750 rated 2v2 team. A 2v2 team never has the capacity to earn the same amount of points as the best 5v5 teams. If you are having troubles getting much past 1500 in 2v2 and 3v3, you are better off putting your time into matches with the 5v5 team, even if the rating isn't that good. If You Are Winning, Keep Playing The general rule with WoW Arenas is that if you are winning your matches, then keep playing. As long as you are improving your rating, then you are not wasting your time. However, if you are staying at par and really not gaining any ground, then you are better off just doing your 10 match quota for the week and upgrade your gear doing PvP or raids until the next weekly reset, then repeat. This is especially true for 2v2 or 3v3 matches, which heavily favor some classes that are overpowered in these small battles, such as paladins, hunters, ice mages, and warlocks. Some nights you might find yourself facing these class combos over and over again, it just isn't worth the stress. You wil also find that the best teams that are really tough to beat often have the best gear, so you might as well upgrade yourself! The OverPowered Arena Classes Not all classes are created equal, and arenas heavily favors a well balanced team with lots of damage, lots of healing, and lots of crowd control (CC, roots, fear, snares, etc). Particularly frustrating are paladins paired up with a good damage dealing class. Paladins have the best healing in the game, they are hard to kill, they can bubble themselves for invulnerability and they can also stun their opponents. Hunters are tough opponents because they deal alot of damage, can trap, sleep, confuse and even make themselves immune to CC abilities. Ice mages are frustrating because they can ice block to make themselves immune to damage, then can teleport, they can deal good damage, they can silence, they can CC, and they have a pet that can CC. Warlocks can be extremely difficult to kill, dealing significant damage themselves, siphoning health, fearing, ranged stun bomb, they can give themselves a damage shield and also heal themselves. This isn't even touching the unique abilities of the pets that Warlocks can summon. If you have one or more of these classes on your arena team, consider yourself very lucky, and overpowered. Arena Strategy 1. Every single successful arena team needs to have at least one very good healer. Without good healing, your team will be at a significant disadvantage against other teams that do. 2. Use crowd control always. It is important to always use the CC that you have available to you. If you CC your opponent, they can't be attacking you. 3. Focus fire on healers > soft targets > whatever else is left. Healers should always be your first target. For example, if you are fighting against a team that has a paladin, it is absolutely essential that the paladin is attacked or CCed first, forcing them to bubble. As soon as the bubble wears off, immediately kill the paladin so they cannot draw out the battle. All healers are important, but neglecting a paladin is a big mistake, they should always be your first target. If you think you can quickly kill a soft target before a healer, it better be very fast, before the healer is able to recover their health. Make Sure To BookMark Us! Alot More Coming Soon! |
